Our Solar Eclipse!

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerDuring the wee hours of Monday night (actually early Tuesday morning), we had (by the time you read this) an unusual Solar Eclipse (New Moon). What's getting started at this hidden, New Moon, are conversations with powerful or influential people or organizations, especially about growth. (Sun, Moon and Mercury trine Pluto and Mercury sextile Jupiter).

Big Money is Afoot!

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerToday a set of prosperous cycles begins to come into range. There are actually five sets of big money cycles, one of which peaks tomorrow, Friday April 11th. That cycle (Venus conjunct Neptune) can bring in money, but there can also be a lot of money slipping away without realizing where it's going. So take extra care to track your expenses this week and through the middle of next week. In addition, this cycle can be associated with deception related to money. Con artists are looking for their share!

April Astrocycles 2014

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerApril began with Fool’s Day, of course! The Sun and Uranus were conjunct in Aries, and that pair were square to both Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Cancer. Thus we could easily have made fools of ourselves through impulsive action, if we didn’t let the Taurus Moon provide some badly needed grounding. Yes, we’ve all got the potential for rebellious urges during the month of April, right from the git-go! That Sun/Uranus conjunction and T-square with Jupiter and Pluto continued for the first week.

March Astrocycles 2014

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerThe month of March quite literally began with a New Moon! Yes, on March 1, at exactly 12:00 AM PST, we had a New Moon at 10 degrees 39 minutes Pisces. The New Moon duo formed a stellium in Pisces, with Neptune and Chiron. The entire stellium was trine to Jupiter in Cancer. That was a load of watery energy, a reminder that our complex and fast-paced lives fill us with a whole swirl of emotions, not just the few “default” settings we try to steadfastly remain in to get through the days. In addition to the visioning for the future that we all need to do on New Moons, I hope you took some time to be with your emotional self. The entire month the Sun is in Pisces, particularly with Neptune and Chiron there as well, is a great time to soften, touch in to our vulnerability, take the time to weep, gasp at the awe and wonder of life itself!

Delays, Miscommunications & Mistakes

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick Astrologer Last Thursday, February 6th, we began Mercury retrograde or Red Communications, as it's called in the Guide and this cycle lasts through February 28th. So we're in a period now when there are delays, miscommunications and confusion. You may also be discovering things you forgot to do, or thought you did, but instead they slipped through the cracks. Or perhaps they were done wrong? Now they show up and demand your attention. In fact you may need to reschedule someone or something off your schedule so you can handle it.

February Astrocycles 2014

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerThe onset of February was a stark reminder that we are at mid-winter. The Moon, Mercury and Neptune were all huddling together in early Pisces, and the only other major aspect was the cardinal T-square with Pluto/Venus conjunction opposing Jupiter and squaring Uranus. Potent, tense, spare were the interactions between planets. And we all might well have felt like we’d prefer to spend time alone or in meditation. If so, that could have been your best plan for doing what needed to be done.

January Astrocycles 2014

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerJanuary 1, 2014 was the most important day of the month, perhaps the most important day of the year…for some of us! The New Moon in Capricorn’s stellium (Pluto and Mercury teamed up with the Sun and Moon) was a perfect opportunity to make resolutions you will keep. Nothing “pie in the sky.” This is Capricorn, my friend. That means feet on the ground, one foot in front of the other, ready to move forward in a practical manner with full intent to accomplish. These resolutions may take courage; they may take bravery. But we all need to resolve to make changes, no matter how big or how small, because for many people on the planet, there are rough times ahead in 2014.

January: Venus Retrograde Rethink Money, Values and Relationships

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerWe start 2014 in the midst of Venus retrograde, which begins December 21, 2013 and lasts through January 31, 2014. This cycle is about rethinking our values, our money and even our relationship to money. It’s also about rethinking our relationships. Are they working well? If not, how can we change them or do we want to move on?

Astrocycles for December 2013

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerWelcome December! The final month, the darkest month, and for me, the favorite! December 2013 has a lot of complex astrological activity, some of it rather intense, but we may have a bit more enthusiasm to cope with it all, especially compared to November! The month started with the Sun at 9 degrees Sagittarius, squaring Chiron in Pisces and trine to Uranus in Aries. Retrograde Jupiter in Cancer was active, being trine to the Moon, Saturn and Mercury in Scorpio and opposing Venus in Capricorn.

Get Ready for Breakthroughs!

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerBeginning next week, especially by December 9th, we head into our intense, volatile and potentially explosive energies (Mars opposite Uranus and square Pluto). They will be with us on and off through nearly mid-July 2014. So this is a very important set of cycles to understand their best usage. While these energies can be very challenging, and even war-like, they have a vital task to perform. They're here to assist us in making important breakthroughs in patterns that no longer serve us.

November Astrocycles 2013

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerNovember not only starts with mystery and intensity. It carries on in exactly the same tone. At 12:00 AM November 1, we not only had the infamous exact square of Uranus/Pluto at 9 degrees of Aries/Capricorn respectively, but Mars was at 9 degrees Virgo, the Sun was 9 degrees Scorpio, and Chiron was at 9 degrees Pisces. Mercury was 10 degrees Scorpio and retrograding toward 9, while the Moon was at 10 degrees of Libra. Coincidence? Not on your life. Astrology doesn’t play that game.

Now, it was also true that Mars was late in the 9th degree and then shifted to 10 degrees, Mercury retrograded back to 9 degrees, and the Sun moved to 10 degrees, all within 24 hours. There was something very important about those degrees. And it’s probably up to each of us to figure out exactly what that was.

Symbolically there are multiple meanings for the number 9, but many can be summed up by the idea of completion, the ending of a cycle or system, something ending, finished. Literally, 9 is the end of the series of single digit numbers. The number 10 starts a new series.

Fall Equinox

Fall Equinox

by Dena DeCastro

I must confess, fall has always been my favorite season. Even growing up in California where there really aren't four true seasons, I was excited about everything that autumn embodied -- the cooler weather (as I'm not a fan of the heat), the coming of my favorite holiday (Halloween), and yes, even the return to school (I was a nerd -- surprise.) I longed for the times that I could sit quietly reading my books, and wouldn't be forced by my mom daily to "go out and enjoy the sunshine." As an introvert, I longed for the quieter, more inward times signaled by the beginning of fall.

This change of season is an astrological event, defined by the Sun's entrance into Libra. The equinox can happen on slightly different dates each year, but it generally occurs around September 22nd. This year, it is at 1:45 PM PDT on that date. In the northern hemisphere, the nights become longer than the days. Depending upon your latitude, the rate varies at which the daylight hours diminish, and the difference between day and night hours is more extreme the further north you go. For example, here in the Northwest the days begin to get shorter very noticeably, and by December, we have sunsets around 4:30 PM. The change from summer’s long days down to winter’s darkness happens at a steeper climb than the southern part of the country. Fall is a movement from the heightened energy of summer down to the inward, quieter focus of winter. However, I've also found this time of year to be immensely creative, as I'm able to focus my energies more clearly and feel less distracted by the outer world (as long as I set my boundaries around the holidays!)

September Astrocycles 2013

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerSeptember came to us gently this year, on a holiday weekend, the Virgo Sun in almost exact trine to Pluto in Capricorn, sextile to the North Node and Saturn in Scorpio. The Moon was in her own sign of Cancer, as was Jupiter. The earth trine, in particular, may have helped us to feel grounded, while the Moon and Jupiter helped us to feel safe.

We so needed a bit of safe ground, even if it was for just a brief moment. The gentleness didn’t last long. Meanwhile we wait on pins and needles for a decision to be made on Syria, for resolving the fights we expect in Congress over the debt ceiling, for containment of forest fires. There is no end to the list of crises in the world about which we can fret, not to mention our personal levels of not knowing. And there’s no energy like Virgo energy to stir and flex our “fretting” muscles!

August Astrocycles 2013

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerWe welcomed the month of August with the Grand Trine in water still pulsing away in our consciousness, urging us to flow with our being, with the changes gradually manifesting in our world…whether we like it or not. Have faith, says Jupiter in Cancer! Trust in Source, says Neptune in Pisces! Feel deeply, says Saturn in Scorpio!

Those Disruptive Surprises

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerWe're now firmly in the period when Mars Out-of-Bounds meets the volatile and explosive Mars square Uranus cycle. In general, these two cycles together can be highly disruptive, with anger and violence occurring. Unexpected actions, which are disruptive and/or explosive are common.

July Astrocycles 2013

by Joan Kiley

Joan Kiley AstrologerJuly began with Mercury retrograde, plus a preview of a configuration we will see evidence of throughout the entire month. It is a rather rare event called an outer planet grand trine (or equilateral triangle) in water signs. The planets involved are Jupiter, just 1 degree into Cancer at month’s onset, Saturn retrograde in early Scorpio, and Neptune retrograde in early Pisces. They were loosely trined on July 1, but become nearly exact at just under 5 degrees July 17, and remain in orb all this month and into August.

Jupiter in Cancer (Part 1)

by Dena DeCastro

Ever since Jupiter entered Cancer, I began to actively attempt to connect with his energy. I did a small ritual "welcoming" him into my sun sign; I asked for guidance, protection, and support in my endeavors. I realize this may sound kind of nutty to some people. But I'm an astrologer, so talking to the planets is what I do. Literally
